The Rag Rug Closet
I'm a disabled middle age woman who had to find a hobby or start climbing the walls. An Aunt gave me a couple rugs she made and I thought "I can do this" and that got me interested in making them myself. I decided my rugs wouldn't be those dark, dull colors you see so often with these rugs. I like the pastels and Springlike colors so much better. I have given a couple rugs as gifts and neither is being used for what it was intended for, to be on the floor. One is on the back of a recliner and the other is the center piece on a dining room table. I'm making rag rugs like crazy right now in the hopes of selling enough of them so I can put up a fence for my puppy. But, I really started making rag rugs to supplement my disability and to help with physical therapy. It really hurts my hands when I'm working with the rugs, but there's great satisfaction and forgetfulness of pain once the rug is done and I can see how beautiful it is.
These rugs are made the way our grandmothers used to make them. Each strip of fabric is hand cut, hand sewn and hand crocheted. So, there's a lot of work involved in each and every rug I make. Plus, the task of finding just the right combination of material and colors. Every rug is made with love and all the rugs are washed twice after they are completed and stored in scented airtight totes until they are ready to go to their new home.
These rugs can be put in the washer but I would really recommend you line dry or lay flat to dry to preserve the rug. If you were to follow the advise given by grandma, you wouldn't put this rug in the washer at all, but would hand wash it.
Now that I have talked your ear off, it's time to go play with the puppy and make his dinner. He's so demanding, but just too darn cute to deny. Thank you for visiting and I hope to see you again real soon.
If you need to get in touch with me about an item please send me an email at tigger021@comcast.net and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
